Darksiders for $6 and SpongeBob on Switch 2 Lead THQ Sale

HG Staff

Sixteen Switch games, one Switch 2 game. That’s the shape of THQ Nordic’s August eShop sale, and it says more about the platform transition than any press release. The lone next-gen entry is SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide at $27.99, down from $39.99 — a significant markdown on a native Switch 2 release.

The Switch half is where the knives come out. Darksiders Warmastered Edition hits $5.99, Darksiders 3 and Genesis drop to $7.99, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, Titan Quest, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar all fall to $9.99. Every one of those runs on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility, which is the real story for portable players in 2026.

SpongeBob Carries the Entire Switch 2 Side

Titans of the Tide at 30% off is a useful data point: native Switch 2 pricing is not immune to sale season — the MGS Collection’s Switch 2 discounts made that clear. It’s also the only data point in this entire promotion. Every other line is a Switch 1 SKU running through backwards compatibility, which makes this less a next-gen showcase and more a backward-compat backlog clearout — with one native SpongeBob exception leading the page.

Darksiders at Pocket Change: The Backward-Compat Backlog Play

Let’s do the arithmetic. The three Darksiders games in this sale — Warmastered Edition at $5.99, Darksiders 3 and Genesis at $7.99 each — total $21.97, less than the single discounted SpongeBob. For long-haul trips, that’s a serious amount of content per battery charge — Koei Tecmo just ran the same sale math on Switch — and Darksiders on Nintendo Switch is easy to recommend at these prices.

Just don’t expect a Switch 2 glow-up. Nothing here is listed as an enhanced edition, so these play as Switch 1 games, and they’ll keep doing exactly that when played on a Switch 2. That isn’t a flaw; a $5.99 action-RPG that plays identically across two portable generations is exactly the kind of purchase that should anchor a library during a transition year. The sale runs through August 20, 2026 — at these prices, Darksiders 3 and Genesis are the low-risk buys, and Warmastered at $5.99 is effectively a rounding error.
