Pikmin 3 Deluxe Gets Free Switch 2 Resolution Boost

HG Staff

Nintendo quietly slipped out a Pikmin 3 Deluxe patch tonight, and it’s the kind of update that makes older games feel new again on Switch 2. Version 1.2.0 boosts the image to higher resolution in both docked and handheld play — Nintendo hasn’t posted exact numbers, but the jump should be obvious on the Switch 2’s panel and on high-resolution TVs. The patch also adds GameShare support to Bingo Battle, which is a bigger deal than the one-line patch note suggests.

This is a Switch 2-only update in everything but name. The patch notes under ‘Switch’ simply say there are no changes — original Switch owners keep the same 2020 port they already had. For Switch 2 early adopters, though, this is the second surprise Nintendo refresh in a single evening, alongside a new Mario Tennis Fever patch, and it points to a strategy of quietly upgrading existing first-party catalog titles instead of selling remasters at full price.

Resolution Without the Receipt

Pikmin 3 Deluxe always played wonderfully in handheld mode, but its visual roots as a 2013 Wii U title were impossible to ignore on modern displays. The 1.2.0 patch targets the Switch 2’s display and high-resolution TVs at the same time, which suggests Nintendo is treating both use cases as equal priorities — not just the docked crowd. For a game where you’re constantly scanning for tiny Pikmin, fruit, and enemy tells, sharpness is gameplay, not vanity. The free nature of the update matters, too: it signals that Nintendo sees Switch 2 backwards compatibility as a reason to invest in existing libraries — as it did with Xenoblade Torna’s free 1080p/60 Switch 2 update — rather than a reason to charge again.

GameShare Finally Makes Bingo Battle a Drop-In Affair

Bingo Battle is the best party mode in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, but portable multiplayer has always carried a hidden tax: everyone needs a copy. GameShare removes that tax. A host can now invite a friend nearby or through game chat, which turns a solo carry-on game into a spontaneous couch co-op session — no second cartridge, no digital purchase math. It’s the same feature Nintendo has been seeding through its Switch 2 multiplayer library, and its arrival here gives Pikmin 3 Deluxe a multiplayer dimension it desperately needed. If you skipped the Deluxe port in 2020, this is the patch that makes a second look worthwhile; if you already own it, you just got a free reason to pack your Switch 2 next trip.
