Freebies Flood Your Deck: July 23's Must-Grab Handheld Haul

This is a stacked week for handheld library expansions. Steam, Epic Games Store, and Amazon Prime Gaming are all dropping free titles, and the compatibility landscape is a mixed bag of Verified, Playable, and “good luck.” Here is what is worth the download bandwidth and SD card space.

What Actually Runs on Your Deck

Yet Another Zombie Defense HD (permanent Steam addition, Playable) will need control tweaks or touchscreen input for full comfort. Foretales from Epic (also Playable) is a better fit—turn-based deckbuilding maps cleanly to controller input and does not tax the APU, so you will see better battery life than with any action title. Amazon Prime subscribers get the fattest haul this week: Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch, Terraforming Mars, and Escape Academy all carry Steam Deck Verified tags. That means button mapping and UI scaling work out of the box. ROG Ally and Legion Go owners should check resolution profiles on these Verified titles individually, but the Windows-native compatibility tends to match or exceed Deck performance on the same Verified tier.

Tight Redemption Windows and the Prime Gaming Edge

Amazon Prime Gaming delivers GOG copies of Mystic Academy: Escape Room and FRAMED Collection alongside Amazon-native titles like In Sound Mind. Snagging these on a Steam Deck requires a third-party launcher like Heroic Games Launcher or NonSteamLaunchers, which adds a setup step but yields permanent library additions. Timers are tight: Yet Another Zombie Defense HD and Foretales both expire July 30. Lost Eidolons disappears July 29. On a handheld where every gigabyte of storage is precious, missing a Verified freebie stings more than it would on a desktop—triage your downloads and set those reminders.
