007 First Light Patch 1.1.0: Massive on PS5, Slim on Handhelds

HG Staff

PS5 owners need to clear 23.84GB for 007 First Light’s first major patch. Steam Deck users? 3.6GB. The Xbox PC version (what actually runs on ROG Ally and Legion Go) is even leaner at 2.24GB. That gap isn’t an accident — it’s the difference between Sony’s Kraken compression pipeline doubling up assets and the straightforward package system on PC. For anyone managing 64GB or 256GB of internal storage, the practical takeaway is simple: this is the biggest patch of the year on console, and barely a footnote on handhelds.

The Compression Tax You Never See

IO Interactive’s 1.1.0 update fixes over 200 issues, adds two new TacSim Escalations (‘The Workshop’ and ‘Extraction Avenues’), and ships unlockable gear like the DRS-7 Silenced SMG. All that on a 3.6GB download for Steam Deck, versus a console patch that rivals a full game install. The difference comes down to how PS5 handles asset updates — patching often requires re-downloading duplicated data blocks thanks to Kraken’s packing structure. PC platforms just ship the changed files. For handheld players, that means less time tethered to Wi-Fi, less SSD space sacrificed, and no agonizing choice about which game gets evicted for a single patch.

TacSim Missions and the Standby Fix That Matters

Beyond the size savings, two fixes in this patch are specifically relevant to portable play. The patch corrects main menu videos playing at double speed when resuming from standby — a bug that hit harder on handhelds where suspend/resume is the default workflow, not a fallback. It also fixes a PlayStation system menu ADS freeze and objective timers resetting to zeros, both of which could interrupt a session mid-commute. The new TacSim Escalations (‘The Workshop’ and ‘Extraction Avenues’) are designed for bite-sized infiltration runs that build on the game’s stealth mechanics we analyzed previously, and the structure maps well to the 20-to-40-minute play windows handheld gaming thrives on. No new battery optimizations are listed, but a leaner patch means less write activity and less wear on an SSD that’s already pulling double duty. IO Interactive has signaled more updates are coming. If they keep shipping patches this size on PC, handheld owners won’t have to dread the download counter.
