Breathedge Is Free on Steam — But Skip the Intro on Deck

Breathedge was never the game you’d clear a weekend for — a satirical space-survival sandbox where your only companion is an immortal chicken. But for the next two days it’s free to add to your Steam library permanently, and on a handheld that changes the equation completely. Free-to-keep promos turn “I’ll get around to it someday” into a permanent shelf slot — one you can actually play on a train six months from now. It’s also the second notable Steam giveaway in a week, following Moonlighter’s recent redemption window, and unlike some freebies, this one has a documented path to fully working on Deck.

Skip the Demo — This One’s Yours to Keep

The deal runs until August 9th. Head to the Steam store page, hit the redeem button, and Breathedge is yours to keep forever — no subscription, no time-limited install window, nothing to lose beyond the thirty seconds it takes to claim it. The game itself is a crafting-survival farce: you’re a hapless astronaut sifting through spaceship wreckage, building tools, piloting vehicles, running space stations, and chasing the mystery behind your crash while an immortal chicken provides moral support. For Deck owners, that structure maps cleanly onto portable sessions — crafting loops tolerate interruption, and a game this unserious rewards short hands-on bursts between everything else. Adding it now means it’s in the library, ready whenever the mood strikes.

One Button Fixes Breathedge’s Only Deck Problem

Steam lists Breathedge as Unsupported on Steam Deck, but that label is doing heavy lifting for a very small problem. Per reports from Steam Deck HQ, the game hangs or crashes at the end of the intro video — press X to skip it and everything else runs. That’s the entire fix. Unsupported ratings usually conjure images of broken menus and unplayable framerates, but Breathedge’s issue is a cutscene that overstays its welcome by exactly one button press. Claim it before August 9th, remember the X trick, and you’ve got a fully playable, genuinely funny space-survival campaign riding along in your Deck’s library — which is about as good as a free Steam deal gets for handheld players.
