Veronica Remake Tops 2M Wishlists, and Handheld Players Are Watching

HG Staff

Two million people have bookmarked a game that won’t ship until 2027, and for handheld owners that may be the most useful number Capcom has published all summer. Resident Evil Veronica — the remake of Code: Veronica — has crossed 2 million wishlists across PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2, the publisher confirmed this week.

The milestone isn’t a sales figure. It’s a signal — and the Switch 2’s presence in that multiplatform lineup is the part handheld players should read closely.

Switch 2 Breaks Capcom’s REmake Habit

Capcom’s modern remake era has mostly skipped Nintendo hardware. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes never came to Switch natively, and Resident Evil 4 Remake didn’t get a native Switch version either. That’s what makes Veronica’s Switch 2 release notable: it’s a current-generation remake with a Nintendo console in the platform plan from day one.

The wishlist count matters because it rewards that bet. 2 million bookmarks across storefronts tells Capcom the audience isn’t just nostalgic — it’s distributed across platforms, including portable ones. The team also includes core members from the RE2 and RE4 remakes, and Capcom has confirmed a full third-person perspective and story adjustments to fit modern canon. That’s the credibility portable players need before making a commitment.

The Performance Silence Capcom Needs to Break

Steam Deck owners have the easiest path into the PC version, but Capcom has not confirmed frame rate targets, resolution, or Steam Deck verification for Veronica. The surrounding evidence is good: RE2 Remake has long been a reliable Steam Deck performer, and RE4 Remake is playable with some tuning. But until Capcom speaks, the only honest expectation is “comparable to other current RE Engine games on Deck” — nothing more specific.

Switch 2 is the bigger mystery. Capcom hasn’t shown Veronica running on Nintendo’s hardware, and this is shaping up to be one of the biggest RE Engine tests on the platform. The right follow-up to a 2 million wishlist milestone is a concrete one: gameplay on Switch 2, Steam Deck verification, or at minimum a performance target. 2 million people have left a bookmark as a promise. Capcom now owes them proof the game will actually travel.
