Nintendo Maintenance: Switch 2 Friends Down for 30 Minutes

HG Staff

Nintendo has published its maintenance schedule for the week of August 30, 2026, and Switch 2 and Switch owners have a specific window to plan around. Some friends features on both systems go offline for 30 minutes starting at 6 PM PT on August 31 (9 PM ET, 2 AM UK, 3 AM Europe). For portable players, that timing is the real story: it lands during prime evening hours in North America and the middle of the night in Europe.

The Switch Parental Controls app gets its own maintenance window the next day, stretching from 6:30 PM PT to 10 PM PT on September 1 (with regional conversions listed across UK and European times). While that doesn’t touch game systems directly, anyone managing a kid’s handheld playtime via the app should expect the app’s features to be affected during that stretch.

Plan Around the 30-Minute Friends Gap

Thirty minutes is a short window, but on a handheld it can feel longer if you’re mid-session and suddenly lose online functionality. Nintendo hasn’t specified which friends features are affected, but on Switch 2 and Switch that could include online presence, friend notifications, or lobby interactions. The practical move is to treat the 6 PM PT–6:30 PM PT stretch as a no-go for online co-op and jump into a single-player game or an offline activity instead.

The Parental Controls maintenance on September 1 is the more notable one for families. It runs longer and affects the app used to set playtime limits, so parents who rely on the app to enforce boundaries on a Switch 2 in the living room should make any changes before the window opens. For everyone else, the schedule is a minor ripple in the handheld routine — but those who plan around it won’t lose a co-op drop.
