Splatoon 3's Plastic-Bottle Splattershot Is a Switch 2 Cross-Sell
Splatoon 3’s next update includes a weapon that’s literally trash. Nintendo announced version 11.3.0 will grant the Plastic-Bottle Splattershot Replica to players with Splatoon Raiders save data who’ve completed that game’s main story — a reskinned Tentatek Splattershot with the same familiar handling, now dressed like a crumpled plastic bottle.
There’s no release date beyond ‘soon,’ and Nintendo hasn’t detailed the rest of the patch, though balance tweaks and bug fixes are the usual companions this late in Splatoon 3’s life. The real handheld story isn’t the bottle’s stats, though. It’s that this reward is a save-data bribe, and it’s pointing squarely at Switch 2.
Save-Data Bait: Nintendo’s Cross-Generation Nudge
Nintendo has used save bonuses to bridge Splatoon games before, but this one faces forward instead of backward. Splatoon Raiders is the Switch 2 entry in the series, launching July 23, and the Plastic-Bottle reward requires real progress in it — not just a save file sitting on the system. For anyone still splitting time between Splatoon 3 on Switch and the new hardware, that’s a deliberate nudge to make Raiders part of the rotation. It also keeps Splatoon 3’s update cadence alive, which matters for a game that many players still treat as a portable mainstay.
The update itself will apply the same on Switch and in backward compatibility on Switch 2, and Nintendo hasn’t announced any Switch 2-specific performance bump for Splatoon 3. But the cosmetic’s real job is cross-generation outreach: it rewards progress you’ve already made, with no code entry and no detour to a website. That’s a sharper marketing play than any Direct segment — and it doesn’t interrupt a single handheld session.
