A $2.50 Right-Angle USB-C Cable Is a Handheld Charging Steal

HG Staff

Two and a half dollars per cable is less than a coffee, and if you own more than one handheld you already know the pain of digging a spare USB-C cord out of the bottom of a bag. Amazon has the Ainope 6.6ft 60W right-angle USB-C two-pack down to $4.99 with coupon code 658Q94W5 — half off the $9.99 list price, and well under the roughly $10-per-cable you’d pay at a big box store. The spec sheet matters more than the sticker here, though, and that’s exactly where handheld owners should slow down before hitting buy.

60W Covers Deck and Switch 2 — Not Your 65W Ally

A 60W rating means these cables top out at roughly 3A over 20V, which is more than enough for a Nintendo Switch 2, an iPhone, or a tablet. It also lines up neatly with the Steam Deck, whose bundled charger only asks for 45W — so a 60W cable won’t bottleneck anything Valve ships. Where this gets thorny is the Windows handhelds. The ROG Ally and Legion Go both ship with 65W power bricks, and a 60W cable is a hard ceiling they can’t negotiate past; you’ll still charge, but slower, and if you’re pushing Turbo mode on an Ally while plugged into a 65W brick through this cable, you can watch the battery tick down while you game. For Deck and Switch 2 owners this is a non-issue. For Ally and Legion Go owners, treat these as travel and accessory cables, not your primary dock-line.

The Right-Angle Connector Is the Real Reason to Bite

Most of us have charged a handheld while playing in bed, on a couch, or wedged into an airplane tray, and that’s where a straight connector becomes a lever. A plug jutting 20mm out of the top port of a Deck or Switch 2 turns every accidental tug into stress on the port itself — the single most expensive repair on any of these devices. The right-angle end sits nearly flush, cutting that leverage dramatically. Add a nylon braid and hard plastic boots over the terminals, and a 4.6-star average across 37,000-plus Amazon reviews, and you’ve got a cable that’s built for the exact abuse portable play dishes out.
