Stunfisk's Rug Quest Hides a House You'll Miss on Switch
Stunfisk doesn’t want a battle — it wants interior decorating advice. The flat fish’s request in Pokopia’s Bubbly Basin asks you to track down a rug covered in underwater Pokemon, and its only guidance is that the rug exists somewhere in town. No marker, no map hint — just a vague prompt and a seaside settlement full of visual noise.
That vagueness plays differently on a handheld. On a TV, you can methodically scan Bubbly Basin’s cliffs for a cave entrance. On a Switch or Switch 2 at arm’s length, you’re squinting at rock textures for a gap you’re not even sure exists. And the actual hiding spot — a half-buried house near the play area — is built to be missed. This is exactly the kind of quest that earns its guide.
A Half-Sunken House: The Rug’s Hidden Corner of Bubbly Basin
The Ocean Pals rug sits in a Pokeball inside a dilapidated house at the northwest corner of Bubbly Basin, tucked behind the play area and buried in a cave. Two routes get you there. Cross the bridge toward the play area and look through the cracks in the cliffs to the left of the slide, behind the Star-Speckled Rocks. Or raise the camera above the waterline when you reach the play area — the house’s upper half pokes above ground, and the lower half sits sunken below.
Neither cue is forgiving on a small screen. Star-Speckled Rocks don’t pop in portable mode the way they do on a big display, and the cave mouth is easy to scroll straight past. If you’re playing handheld with brightness down and glare up, expect to circle this corner a few times before the layout registers. Go northwest first, enter the cave, and grab the only Pokeball inside — that’s the Ocean Pals rug.
The Swampert Squad Decoy and the Wrong-Rug Backtrack
Bubbly Basin holds a second fish-friendly rug, and it’s a trap for anyone in a hurry. The Swampert Squad rug is in a Pokeball just to the right of the bridge, before you cross from the main town into the play zone. It’s blue, water-themed, and sitting right there — but Stunfisk won’t accept it. The quest specifically wants the Ocean Pals rug, an easy mix-up when you’re grabbing items mid-session on a portable.
Treat both as collection pieces: pick up the Swampert Squad rug on your way toward the play area — GamesRadar’s guide notes no Pokemon has requested it yet, though one might later — then climb to the cave house for the Ocean Pals rug and deliver that one to Stunfisk. It’s a small quest, but learning the terrain once saves a backtrack. On a handheld, backtracking is battery you don’t get back — the same reasoning behind Pokopia’s handheld-first event design.
