Persona 4 Revival Adds Aika as a Social Link — and New Personas

HG Staff

For fourteen years, Aika Nakamura has been Persona 4’s best-running joke: the Aiya delivery girl who is somehow always out on a run the exact moment Yu Narukami sits down for a Mighty Beef bowl. In Persona 4 Revival, she’s getting a name plate, a schedule slot, and a Social Link. Atlus revealed the change during its second promotional broadcast, and the knock-on implication — a new arcana, therefore possibly new Personas to fuse — is the part worth taking seriously.

For anyone who plays their JRPGs on a Switch 2 in bed or a Steam Deck on a train, that implication lands harder than it does on a desktop. Persona 4 Golden is the reason a whole cohort of players treats a commute as dungeon time. Adding a Social Link to the remake doesn’t just add content — it adds a new thing competing for the finite number of in-game afternoons in a game that was already the tightest calendar Atlus has ever shipped.

A New Arcana in Persona’s Most Punishing Calendar

The question GamesRadar raises — which arcana Aika occupies, and whether that drags new Personas into the compendium — is the correct one, because P4’s day planner is merciless. Golden added Marie, an Adachi link, and slack in the schedule to accommodate them. Revival is expanding Marie’s role and bolting on Aika, and the source notes the broader changes include rewritten Yosuke scenes and a full English voice-cast replacement. That’s not a port with new textures; it’s a re-balance — the same remake-first thinking that has Persona 1 and 2 remakes looking inevitable.

For handheld players, calendar pressure is a session-shape problem, not an abstraction. A new link plus a possible new arcana means more Velvet Room trips, more fusion bookkeeping, and more chances for a first-time completionist run to go sideways at the 60-hour mark. P4 Golden’s guide-and-spreadsheet culture exists precisely because you cannot wing an optimal run. If Aika’s link is mandatory-adjacent for a full compendium, expect the portable crowd to be the first to map her route — that’s a bus-ride-at-a-time community project, and it’s how the original game’s community grew in the first place.

From Vita Killer App to Switch 2: Revival Has to Re-Earn Its Portable Crown

Persona 4 Golden earned its reputation because it shipped on a handheld that fit in a jacket pocket and made 100-plus hours feel like a daily ritual rather than a commitment. The remake’s platform list — Switch 2, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X — means most of its audience will meet it on a portable or a handheld PC. Atlus hasn’t disclosed performance targets for Revival, so treat any FPS figure you see floating around as fiction. The useful reference point is Persona 3 Reload, built on the same studio’s current pipeline: it runs at a solid-but-not-locked clip on Steam Deck, dipping in dense hub areas, and it is the closest technical cousin this remake has. Until Atlus says otherwise, that’s the ballpark.

The install size is the more predictable handheld tax. Persona 3 Reload sits around 30GB, and a rebuilt P4 with expanded Marie content and new MAPPA-produced cutscenes — the source confirms the Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man studio is handling them — won’t come in smaller. On Switch 2 that’s a meaningful bite out of internal storage, and it’s the genre that most justifies a permanent install slot, since nobody uninstalls a calendar game mid-route. If you own Persona 4 Golden on Amazon, you already know the routine. The takeaway: Aika’s promotion is the clearest sign yet that Revival is a re-balance rather than a tribute act, and if Atlus gets the calendar math right, this February could finally knock Golden off the portable JRPG throne it has held since the Vita — and Persona 6 is already leaking its way onto Deck.
