Witcher 3 DLC and FF7 Revelation Lead ONL 2026's Handheld Stakes

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 hits Tuesday at 7pm BST / 2pm ET / 11am PT, with a 30-minute pre-show ahead of two hours of reveals. The confirmed lineup is a wall of heavy-hitting RPGs — Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, Silent Hill Townfall, Gears of War: E-Day, and Exodus — but for anyone who games on the go, the real question isn’t what’s in the trailer. It’s which of these will actually hold up on a Steam Deck, Switch 2, or the Windows handheld of your choice. Let’s grade the confirmed and rumored lineup from a portable perspective.

Songs of the Past Is the One Confirmed Portable Lock

The Witcher 3 is already one of the most proven portable AAA titles ever made — it shipped on Switch, earned a Steam Deck playable listing, and has been a baseline benchmark for handheld PC owners since Valve’s machine launched. So when CD Projekt Red teases its first expansion DLC, it’s not just a new chapter for Geralt; it’s a direct promise to the handheld audience that showed up in huge numbers.

The ONL reveal should clarify the scope — whether Songs of the Past is a 5 GB quest bundle or a large-scale expansion that could demand serious storage on a 512 GB Deck. Either way, this is the one confirmed appearance where portable players know exactly what they’re getting: a game that already lives on their device of choice.

FF7 Revelation and Townfall Are the Big Handheld Question Marks

Square Enix’s relationship with Valve hardware has never been simple. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth eventually reached PC, but the company’s PlayStation-first windows meant Steam Deck owners got the games late, and even then with performance quirks that required community tweaks. Revelation, if it follows the same roadmap, will likely be a showpiece you watch on a phone or laptop while the actual handheld port waits.

Silent Hill Townfall is an even murkier proposition: Konami has already shipped a great Silent Hill 2 remake and a messy Metal Gear Solid collection, so Townfall’s PC and handheld credentials are genuinely up in the air. If it does target a portable platform, it could be the strongest reason to own a Switch 2 in year one — but Konami hasn’t said a word. Neither game is worth pre-ordering a new SD card for until we see actual portable footage.

The Ori Rumor Is the Sleeper Handheld Prize of ONL

GamesRadar’s own report notes that a new Ori game could make an appearance despite Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler shooting down the rumors — and for handheld owners, this is the one rumor worth getting attached to. The Ori series is a metroidvania, a genre that maps naturally to sleep mode, quick sessions, and OLED screens.

The first two games already found a home on Switch, and a third entry, built by a new team under Microsoft’s umbrella, would likely land on Game Pass from day one — meaning it’s a cloud-streaming candidate on top of being a native portable title. That’s the kind of double-dip that makes the Deck and Switch 2 genuinely exciting. If it shows up, it’ll steal the show from the AAA bloat.
