Final Fantasy X Lands on Switch 2: A Handheld Revival or
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster hits European Nintendo Switch 2 eShops this week, seven years after its debut on the original Switch hybrid. For handheld players who already own Spira’s first portable outing, the Switch 2 version needs to justify a second purchase beyond nostalgia. The verdict hinges on three numbers: frame rate, load time, and battery life.
Faster Loads, Higher Frames, Shorter Battery
The original Switch port of FFX ran at a stable 30 fps, which was acceptable in 2019. On Switch 2, the upgraded CPU and faster storage make near-instant battle transitions and zone loads a realistic expectation. Blitzball matches alone could shave minutes off a play session when you are squeezing in a commute. A 60 fps target in combat is plausible given the PS2-era asset complexity—Square Enix does not need DLSS to hit that ceiling. The trade-off is battery life. The HD Remaster already pulled 4-5 hours on Switch 1’s battery; early estimates put the Switch 2 version closer to 3-3.5 hours thanks to the more power-hungry SoC. Plan around that if this is your travel RPG for the season.
What Else Landed: Splatoon Raid and the Indie Blob
This week’s European download lineup also includes Splatoon Raiders, a co-op raid spin-off that strips the traditional turf-war format into tighter, shorter sessions—better suited for handheld play than a standard 5-minute match. The indie selection runs deep and strange: Memory of Memoire, Pit Panic, Scary Shawarma Shop, and a title called The Chilling Moment You Realize It: Creepy Meaning Psychological Test. Most of these draw lighter power loads, making them better battery companions than the FFX remaster for long-haul portable sessions. Steam Deck and ROG Ally users do not get this specific curated selection, but for Switch 2 owners this week delivers a genuine contrast of AAA nostalgia and experimental indie filler.
